Toronto – October 21, 2015 – The IVOTE4 campaign, a UFCW Canada youth-led initiative aimed at encouraging young people across Canada to vote in last week's federal election, was a tremendous success.

The campaign, which began two weeks before the October 19 election, utilized a combination of online activism and face-to-face interaction to get the message of getting the vote out to young Canadians. UFCW Canada activists participating in the UFCW Young Workers Internship Program (YIP) from all across Canada united in Toronto to help run the campaign.

In just two weeks, the youth-led initiative was noticed by thousands through its online efforts as well as local and national media interviews with CTV, Telesur English, Toronto radio stations CHRY and CHHA, the Manitoban, St. Catharines' SFBU 103.7, Windsor's CJAM 99.1, Saskatoon's CFCR and the YouTube channel Manifest Your Voice.

This 2015 election saw the largest voter turnout in over two decades, with over 68% of eligible voters casting a ballot – up over 7 percent from the 2011 election.

"Launching the campaign with just two weeks before the federal election was a slight challenge that we were able to overcome due to the tremendous efforts of these UFCW Canada young workers," says IVOTE4 campaign co-ordinator and UFCW Canada national representative Pablo Godoy. "In the short time we launched we were able to have been exposed to thousands of Canadians, and we received hundreds of images on social media of Canadians letting us know what values and topics they are voting for. I would like to thank everyone that was involved in the campaign," adds Brother Godoy.

Take a look at what the hundreds of Canadian's who participated in the IVOTE4 campaign by visiting IVOTE4 on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or at ivote4.ca.

ICYMI: The youth vote could be a game changer in this federal election, but history suggests that young people just don't vote. There are efforts to reverse this trend, including a campaign called IVOTE4, a non-partisan campaign comprised of young people looking to change the way people engage in politics. Pablo Godoy, one of the organizers of the campaign, joins us to discuss
