Members at Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre ratify first collective agreement — UFCW 206

Members at Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre ratify first collective agreement — UFCW 206Little Current, Ont. – November 12, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 206 members working at the Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre in Little Current, Ontario have voted unanimously in favour of ratifying their first collective agreement.

The three-year contract provides numerous gains to members. Under the agreement, both part-time and full-time workers will now receive health benefit allowances as well as paid sick days. The agreement also provides annual wage increases and signing bonuses for both part-time and full time workers.

In addition, under the new contract, National Aboriginal Day, June 21, will be recognized as a paid statutory holiday – a breakthrough in a collective agreement. The new contract also features contract language that improves the health and safety of members.

"We're proud to welcome these new members to UFCW Canada, and extremely happy that they were able to negotiate a contract that provides fairness on the job and a better quality of life," says UFCW Canada Local 206 President Wayne Hanley. "The achievements made in this contract will benefit generations to come, including the recognition of National Aboriginal Day as a statutory holiday," Brother Hanley adds.

Opened over two years ago, and located in the heart of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands, the Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre offers guests a unique experience with a theme centred around First Nations art, architecture, food and culture. Workers at the establishment voted unanimously to join UFCW in June.
