Edmonton and Winnipeg – June 9, 2016 – UFCW Canada activists were loud and proud at the Winnipeg and Edmonton Pride Parades.

In Edmonton, UFCW Canada Local 401 and Local 1118 activists took to the streets on June 4, in a colourful parade that kicked off the 36th annual Edmonton Pride Festival. Over 3,000 parade-goers, including Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, celebrated the diversity and unity of Edmonton's LGBTQ community.

In Winnipeg, UFCW Canada Local 832 activists joined more than 2,000 parade-goers who came out in full force on June 5 to participate in Pride Winnipeg celebrations. The parade started with a rally at the Manitoba Legislative Building to celebrate diversity and to advocate for full respect for the LGBTQ community. The parade then set out through downtown Winnipeg, as the culmination of the city’s week-long Pride festivities.

At both parades, UFCW Canada participants handed out UFCW t-shirts, Frisbees, and rainbow flags to participants, and advocated for safe and inclusive workplaces and communities.

As Canada's most progressive union, UFCW Canada plays a leading role in advocating for full equality and opportunity for our LGBTQ sisters and brothers. Find out more at ufcw.ca/pride.
