Toronto – July 4, 2016 – UFCW Canada activists from across the Greataer Toronto Area were out in full force for the 36th Annual Toronto Pride Parade.

Ten of thousands of participants lined Toronto's Yonge Street on July 3, in a beautifully vibrant cascade of colours and a strong display of solidarity at one of North America's largest LGBTQ Pride events. The Toronto parade was the culmination of a number of festivities that took place over the month of June – Toronto's first-ever designated Pride Month.

UFCW Canada activists and staff from Locals 1006A, 175 & 633, and 333, as well as the UFCW Canada National Office, displayed their pride by marching in the street and riding on the UFCW Canada float, celebrating with LGBTQ sisters and brothers from across the country and sending a UFCW Canada message of equality and inclusion.

As Canada's leading and most progressive union, UFCW Canada Local Unions also worked tirelessly throughout the festivities at the UFCW Canada Street Fair booth, in addition to participating in numerous events – such as the Trans and Dyke marches – throughout the weekend.

"UFCW Canada is proud to support our LGBTQ sisters and brothers by participating in Pride festivals and events across the country," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. "Pride is about the values of justice and equality, which are strengthened when we stand together and advocate for issues that affect all working communities and families, including our LGBTQ sisters and brothers," he adds.
