UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Emily Azevedo, UFCW 12R24

Owen Sound, Ont.  – July 11, 2016 – Emily Azevedo is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2015.

Currently enrolled in the Power Engineering Technician program at Georgian College in Owen Sound, Ontario, Emily is a proud UFCW Canada Local 12R24 member who works at The Beer Store.

Sister Azevedo had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship:

"I would like to thank UFCW Canada for choosing me as a recipient of the UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship. Going back to school four years after graduating university was a very difficult decision for me to make, as I knew it would be financially challenging, and I had previously devoted five years of my life to completing my Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching certificate.

After teaching on contracts for four years, I decided I wanted to open more doors for myself and hopefully secure a future career in engineering. This scholarship will allow me to continue my studies with less financial difficulties, so that I can devote more time and effort to my education. Once again, I would like to thank UFCW for awarding me this scholarship.”

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu.

Applications for the 2016 UFCW Canada - BDM Scholarship are now open. To find out more about this renowned union scholarship, or to apply online, click here.
