UFCW Canada jumps higher at Caribana 2016

Toronto – August 2, 2016 – UFCW Canada activists, community partners, and supporters joined over one million spectators, masqueraders, and revelers for this year's Toronto Caribbean Carnival Parade, also known as Caribana.

For over a decade, Canada's leading and most progressive union has participated in the festivities that take place each year along Toronto's waterfront, filled with an atmosphere of the sounds of popular music from the Caribbean, and with streets adorned with flags of Caribbean countries.

Participants danced and marched in the parade dressed in flamboyant costumes dazzled with beautiful feathers and tassels. Once again, UFCW Canada took centre stage with the multi-award-winning Louis Saldenah Mas-K Club, whose chosen theme for this year's parade was "Outta Africa," a celebration of the culture, landscape, and beauty of the continent.

Since its inception in 1967, Toronto's Caribana event has become one of North America's largest international festivals and an annual summer highlight. UFCW Canada's participation in the parade is part of our union's ongoing commitment to be Canada's most diverse and inclusive union.
