Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. – August 10, 2016 – UFCW Canada young member activists from across Western Canada recently gathered in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia for the latest session of the UFCW Canada Young Workers Internship Program.

Members from UFCW Canada Locals 1518, 247, 1118 and 401 participated in an educational and thought-provoking week-long session where they were given the opportunity to engage in topics such as working collectively and become more active within their union and communities.

Throughout the week, the 12 participants learned about some of the challenges that face everyday families and examined both local and international, issues as well as the fight for workers across Canada.

"It's always amazing to be able to be around and learn from an inspiring group of young activists," says UFCW Canada National Representative and YIP coordinator Pablo Godoy. "YIP continuously proves that young people have both the passion and power to change things. It shows that they are willing to get involved and take action to become proactive in their communities and their workplaces, and have the courage to stand up and make the steps towards positive change."

The B.C. session culminates the 2016 UFCW Young Workers Internship Program. This year's program had over 100 participants with five different stops across Canada. To learn more about YIP, click here. You can also follow the program on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
