Granby, Que. – September 8, 2016 – Workers at Les Équipes Yves Sarrazin, a chicken catching service located in Granby, Quebec, are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 501 after saying “Yes!” to joining the union. This is the first time such a business has ever been certified in Canada.
The Les Équipes Yves Sarrazin employees joined the union to improve their working conditions, particularly with regard to travel conditions and health and safety standards at work. The employees also want to end abuse in the workplace and obtain respect and dignity on the job.
The Les Équipes Yves Sarrazin members join many other farm workers who are represented by UFCW Canada Local 501.
“Our union has been fighting for decent working conditions in the agricultural sector for over 25 years,” says Alain Lachaîne, the President of UFCW Canada Local 501. “We are proud to welcome the chicken catchers from Les Équipes Yves Sarrazin to the UFCW family,” he adds.
