Toronto – March 22, 2017 – Canada's leading union for young workers has launched Incite – a new initiative aimed at engaging and educating young workers across the country on their rights at work.
The goal of Incite is to equip young workers with the tools and knowledge to effectively address workplace issues and common realities that young workers are facing, such as the rise of precarious work and unpredictable scheduling.
Incite launched earlier this week at the George Brown College Labour Fair. The Incite activists conducted a number of in-class presentations to get the word out and inspire young workers to take action in their workplace. Between presentations, the activists also engaged with students at an Incite display area at the Labour Fair. The weeklong event at the downtown Toronto college is the biggest annual labour fair at any college or university in Canada.
Incite builds on other UFCW Canada-backed young worker initiatives, including Students Against Migrant Exploitation (SAME) and the UFCW Canada Young Workers Internship Program. In the coming weeks, the Incite group will also be launching a weekly podcast discussion of topics related to young people and the world of work.
