Moncton, N.B. – May 26, 2017 – UFCW Canada's leading internship program for young labour activists, the Young Workers Internship Program (YIP), recently kicked off its 2017 season in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Young member-activists from across the Atlantic Provinces gathered for a jam-packed week of dynamic training and learning, where participants had the opportunity to engage on topics such as organizing, and learn about creative ways to become more active in their Local Union and communities.

Throughout the week-long session, the 14 enthusiastic YIP participants also examined issues affecting workers at home and abroad.  

"YIP aims to inspire young UFCW members to get involved in their union by providing participants with an opportunity to learn more about UFCW and the work that our union does to improve the lives of working people,” says UFCW Canada National Representative and YIP facilitator Zenee Maceda. “This session succeeded in relaying those lessons, and now it is up to participants to take what they've learned and use it to empower others in their workplaces and their communities," she adds.

The next session of the groundbreaking Young Workers Internship Program will take place in Ontario this June. Every year, YIP reaches out to more than 100 young member-activists from across Canada.
