Vaughan and Mississauga, Ont. – July 21, 2017 – UFCW activists rumbled through the streets of Southwestern Ontario on July 15 to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

For the thirteenth straight year, a group of UFCW motorcycle enthusiasts and volunteers embarked on the annual Ride for a Cure, which began at UFCW Canada Local 1006A's Vaughan, Ontario office and ended at UFCW Canada Locals 175 & 633’s office in Mississauga.

“This is my third year participating in the Ride for a Cure,” said John Moroney, a UFCW Canada Local 1006A member who works at Real Canadian Superstore. “My wife passed away a few years ago from lymphoma, so I am trying to do whatever I can to help find a cure,” he added.

Moroney was one of more than two-dozen UFCW activists who participated in this year’s Ride for a Cure, which raised over $4,000 in support of the LLSC.

“What a beautiful day to have UFCW Local Unions gather together to raise money for such a valuable and important cause,” said UFCW Canada Local 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “Together, we are making a difference in the fight against leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.”

To date, UFCW Canada Local Unions across the country have raised over $38 million in support of the life-changing efforts of the LLSC. The money raised goes to research for finding a cure, and to raising awareness of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and other blood cancers.
