Halifax – July 26, 2017 – UFCW Canada activists recently joined the LGBTQI2S community in Halifax, Nova Scotia to celebrate diversity and equality at the Halifax Pride Parade on July 22.
UFCW Canada Atlantic activists proudly marched downtown as part of the city's 30th annual Pride parade. UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council (EPC) activists and family members joined over 100,000 parade participants and spectators – including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – for a fun-filled day celebrating equity and inclusion. The UFCW EPC activists also engaged the crowd with their brightly decorated parade float, while handing out pens and Pride flags to parade-goers while making their way through the streets of Halifax.
"It is always encouraging to see communities stand up and take action for what they believe in," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. "For UFCW, celebrating Pride is important because it sends a message of unity and shows that our union stands in solidarity with members of the LGBTQI2S community,” he adds.
As Canada's most progressive union, UFCW Canada plays a leading role in advocating for full equality and opportunity for our LGBTQI2S sisters and brothers. To learn more about our LGBTQI2S initiatives, visit www.ufcw.ca/pride.
