Regina, Sask. – November 6, 2017 – On the opening day of the fall sitting for the Saskatchewan legislature, UFCW Canada activists joined hundreds of allies at a rally in opposition to Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall’s provincial budget and austerity measures.

Activists from UFCW Canada Local 1400 gathered on the lawns of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina to urge the government to stop its cuts to public services and end the privatization of Saskatchewan’s Crown corporations.

“As a proud resident of Saskatchewan, I am appalled at the far-reaching consequences of Premier Wall’s mean-spirited budget cuts and privatization agenda,” says UFCW Canada Local 1400 President Norm Neault. “The austerity measures in this budget punish working Saskatchewanians by introducing wage cuts, imposing severe limitations on our public services, and further privatizing Crown corporations like the Saskatchewan Transportation Company and SaskTel,” Brother Neault adds.

To combat the privatization of SaskTel, UFCW Canada has launched a campaign enabling activists to send a letter to Premier Wall and the Minister responsible for SaskTel to let them know that you want this valuable asset to remain in public hands. You can send a letter here.

UFCW Canada Local 1400 represents over 6,000 workers in Saskatchewan in a variety of sectors, including the food retail and processing, agriculture, health care, security, and hospitality industries, among others. To learn more about UFCW 1400, visit their website.
