Toronto – March 12, 2019 – March 14 is National Potato Chip Day, a time when Canadians across the country celebrate the country’s Number 1 snack food.

First invented in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1853, potato chips originated as chef-cooked restaurant fare, but later went on to be mass-produced for home consumption in the 20th century. Flavoured chips were then introduced in the 1950s, and now potato chip revenues total over $15 billion annually worldwide.

Chips are extremely popular Canada, as they account for 60 percent of the domestic snack food market, and roughly 13,900 metric tons of potato chips are imported here every year.

Whether you like kettle cooked, ruffled, flavoured, or other types of chips, National Potato Chip Day is the ideal time to eat delicious, Canadian-made chips.
