Hospitality members at Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre win gains
Little Current, Ont. – March 16, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 1006A members working at the Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre in Little Current, Ontario have achieved a new union contract that provides wage gains, better benefits, and more.
The new contract covers 55 members and runs until December 2022. Negotiations were led by UFCW 1006A Union Representative Ric Pereira, with support from members Autumn Abotossaway and Sandy Bisonnette.
Highlights of the new agreement include:

A more than 55 percent increase in reimbursements for health benefit claims;

An increase in time off paid for bereavement;

The introduction of a Team Leader Premium in Housekeeping and the inclusion of Team Leader in Restaurant/Catering into the job classifications / wage grid;

An added 2.35 percent to the end rates of pay in each year of the contract – a cumulative increase of approximately 10 percent over the term of the agreement; and
-
The Sunset Clause has been reduced to twelve (12) months.
"This is a good contact, as we made improvements from the first agreement and the bargaining committee did a great job in negotiations,” says Abotossaway.
Abotossaway adds that members are particularly happy with the significant increase in reimbursements for health benefit claims. She is also glad that housekeepers will also enjoy a team lead premium.
