Toronto – November 26, 2019 – Congratulations to UFCW Canada Local 175 members at the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) on ratifying their first collective agreement. Members at the CCVT provide vital support and integration services to refugees and survivors of war, torture and trauma.
The first contract at the community-based centre includes wage increases of 1.5% for all members in each of the first four years of the agreement, and a raise in the fifth year. In addition, the agreement contains a letter of understanding to provide extra raises should the employer receive additional provincial and/or federal funding.
Some of the other gains in this first collective agreement include:
• healthcare benefits paid fully by the employer;
• one paid float day, a2 paid sick days, and three paid mental health days every year; and
• respect for the employees’ religious holidays.
More than 30 members of UFCW 175 are employed full-time at the CCVT. You can get the full story about the new union contract at the CCVT here.
