Montreal – January 16, 2020 – UFCW Local 501, the union that represents workers at the Keurig coffee plant in Montreal’s Saint-Michel district, welcomes the new partnership between the coffee roasting company and restaurant chain St-Hubert.

“This is a great initiative that will put more Quebec products on the menus of St-Hubert restaurants in Quebec, many of whose staff members belong to FTQ-affiliated unions,” says Alain Lachaîne, President of UFCW 501 and Secretary-Treasurer of the UFCW Provincial Council. “This excellent news is a significant growth driver that will help consolidate and secure quality jobs in a food processing sector where workers have good working conditions,” he adds.

This strategic alliance will boost the presence of Keurig coffee products at the restaurant chain’s 124 locations, as well as St-Hubert brand-name grocery products processed by UFCW Local 501 members at Martin Dessert in Quebec City and Maître Saladier in Boisbriand, Quebec.  

“When we buy products manufactured in Quebec, we not only boost our economy and create good jobs, we also know we are getting high quality products. Almost all the workers in Quebec’s food sector are UFCW members who handle the growing, processing, preserving, distributing, and selling of food products in this province. We can’t say it often enough: the best way to preserve jobs is to buy locally,” Brother Lachaîne adds.
