Food retail members at IGA Lachenaie secure improvements – UFCW 500
Terrebonne, Que. — November 30, 2020 — UFCW Canada Local 500 food retail members working at IGA Lachenaie in Terrebonne, Quebec have recently ratified a new collective agreement that provides wage gains, a signing bonus, and more.
The new seven-year contract covers over 100 food retail workers, and provides a monetary reopening in 2023. Despite a difficult negotiating climate, members of the bargaining committee were able to make numerous improvements, including the following gains:
- Annual wage increases of 8% for the first four years of the agreement;
- A signing bonus;
- The allocation of a bonus for the staff at the Rachelle Béry health space;
- An increase in the cashier supervisor’s bonus; and
- A Christmas bonus of up to 2%.
“Through collective bargaining, we here at UFCW Local 500 are proud to be successful in preserving and improving quality jobs for our members in the retail food sector,” says UFCW Local 500 President Antonio Filato. “The new union contract at IGA Lachenaie is a prime example of what can be achieved when we work together,” he adds.
