B.C. budtenders ratify historic first contract – UFCW 1518

Victoria, B.C. – March 17, 2021 – Budtenders at Clarity Cannabis recently ratified their first collective agreement that ushers in major wage and workplace improvements setting historic new standards for the industry.

These cannabis workers negotiated their contract through the COVID-19 crisis and were the first private dispensary to earn pandemic pay for their essential work. They continually demonstrated unity and solidarity throughout the organizing and bargaining process to arrive at their new contract.

The contract includes wage increases between 8-16% that includes a $17.25 per hour minimum wage and a top rate at $19.75 per hour. Other highlights included a retroactive one-time lump sum, product discounts, recovered benefits plan, additional week vacation and paid sick days.
“I joined the union to help grow protections and benefits for workers looking to build a future doing what they love,” said Budtender Emma Riderelli.
