Café members at Matchstick Coffee achieve first contract – UFCW 1518
Vancouver – August 20, 2021 – Members at Matchstick Coffee locations across Vancouver recently ratified their first collective agreement after successfully organizing the popular coffee chain in November 2020.
The first contract comes with historic breakthroughs in the café industry that include: wage progressions, paid breaks, increased vacation, paid sick days, seniority scheduling and joint labour management meetings to promote a healthy workplace.
The bargaining unit consists of bakers, baristas and coffee roasters who chose to join the union for respect, fairness and better working conditions.
