Timmins, Ont. – March 23, 2022 – Cannabis workers are rising in Ontario, with workers from Sessions Retail Cannabis in Timmins, Ontario becoming the latest group of professionals to join the Green Wave at UFCW Local 1006A.

Danielle Brule, who works at Sessions, is one of the new members who voted to join the union. When news of the organizing victory came, Danielle and her co-workers were thrilled. “We were all excited,” she said. "It felt good. It was the sense of unity and that we were all on the same page. We wanted to have our voices heard.”

“The Green Wave is strong and it’s sweeping across Ontario as more and more Cannabis workers vote for unionization,” says UFCW Local 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “We are thrilled to welcome the newest members from Sessions in Timmins, and we look forward to working with them to achieve a fair first contract. Cannabis workers know that UFCW 1006A can help them improve their rights, working conditions, and livelihoods, and that is why workers in this sector are choosing to join the union.”

The bargaining unit is composed of eleven members. Top issues in the organizing campaign included scheduling implementation, having a voice at work, fair treatment, wages, and improvements to training. The members at Sessions Retail Cannabis work as budtenders and key leads.

“Our union is proud to represent workers all across Ontario,” says UFCW 1006A Organizing Director Lesley Prince. “We are actively addressing the many issues and concerns that Cannabis retail workers are facing, and our presence in the industry continues to grow,” she adds.
