Food service workers at Grounds for Coffee join the union – UFCW 1518
Vancouver – February 24, 2023 – Workers at Grounds for Coffee are the newest food service workers to join the unionization wave across B.C. cafés and coffee shops after joining UFCW 1518 earlier this month.
“We are excited to welcome the newest members of our local union from Grounds for Coffee,” says UFCW 1518 President Kim Novak. “They were clear and focused on why they wanted to join a union – stronger workplace protections and recognition for the work they do.”
Workers across two Vancouver locations joined forces to successfully organize both coffee shops and look to prioritize health and safety concerns, in addition to wages, workloads and ensuring respect and fairness from their employer.
