Eskasoni School Board bus drivers achieve first contract – UFCW 864
Eskasoni, N.S. – October 16, 2023 – UFCW Canada Local 864 members working as bus drivers for the Eskasoni School Board in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia have ratified their first collective agreement after joining the union in February 2023.
The inaugural three-year agreement brings wage increases totaling 10.5% as well as an inflationary bonus at ratification of $1000 for bus drivers and $750 for bus monitors.
In addition to wage increases, members also gain a formal grievance procedure and enhanced job security.
“I would like to congratulate and thank the membership and committee at the Eskasoni School Board on their achievement of gaining a strong first contract,” says Craig Walsh, president of the UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council. “The members are pleased to have UFCW in their corner to listen to their concerns and not be afraid to take on their employer.”
The Eskasoni First Nation is the largest Mi’kmaq community in Canada. The Eskasoni School Board runs the Eskasoni Elementary and Middle School, the Allison Bernard Memorial High School, the Eskasoni Immersion School and the Unama’ki Training & Education Centre.
