Migrant Members Support Program

UFCW is Canada’s leading union supporting migrant workers. For decades, we have been at the forefront of the fight for migrant workers’ rights, standing up for fair treatment and stronger protections both in the workplace and as members navigate Canada’s immigration system. As Canada’s labour force continues to change, the industries we represent are welcoming a growing number of migrant workers. UFCW Canada is proud to stand with our migrant members and their families, helping them understand their rights, access support and build a future in Canada.

Free Immigration Support for UFCW Members

UFCW provides eligible members with free immigration support. Our team can assess your immigration situation, explain the options that may be available to you and, where we are able to assist, guide you through the application process.

There is no professional fee for our services. However, you are responsible for government application fees and other costs that may be required for your application, such as medical examinations, police certificates, biometrics or translations.

Our goal is to help migrant members understand their immigration options and navigate the process with confidence.

How We Can Help

Our program focuses on assisting eligible UFCW Canada members with:

  • Permanent residence applications
  • Family sponsorship applications for spouses, partners and dependent children
  • Permanent residence applications for protected persons
  • Bridging Open Work Permits
  • Work permit renewals and extensions
  • Refugee Travel Documents for protected persons
  • Canadian citizenship applications

Don't see what you're looking for listed? You can still contact us. We may be able to assist with other immigration matters or help you understand what options may be available to you.

Important Information About Our Services

We cannot guarantee an outcome.

We will guide you and, where we represent you, help prepare and submit your application. However, all immigration decisions are made by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or the responsible provincial or federal authority.

We cannot guarantee processing times.

Government processing times are estimates and may change.

You must provide complete and truthful information. You are responsible for providing accurate information and documents and for telling us about important changes that could affect your application. Providing false or misleading information can have serious immigration consequences, including a ban on entering Canada. If you are unsure about something, please talk to us.

Immigration rules can change.

An immigration option available when we assess your situation may change or no longer be available later.

Representation does not begin automatically.

Completing an assessment or speaking with our team does not mean that we have agreed to represent you. If we accept your matter for representation, we will explain the services we will provide and ask you to complete the required documents. Our representation will be limited to the specific matter we agree to handle.

Know Your Rights

As a UFCW Canada member, you are protected at work by your collective agreement, regardless of your immigration status.

If you have questions or concerns about your workplace rights, contact your local union.

Migrant members can also access UFCW Canada's online courses to learn more about their rights and Canadian workplaces.

Get Started

Complete the assessment questionnaire as fully and accurately as possible. A member of our team will review your information and contact you about the next steps.

Please allow up to one week for an initial response.

If your immigration status or an application deadline will expire within the next 30 days, please clearly indicate this in your assessment so that our team is aware of the deadline.
