Second Collective Agreement for Members at IGA Duke – UFCW 500
Montréal – June 11, 2024 – UFCW Local Union 500 is proud to announce the signing of the second collective agreement for union members working at IGA Duke, located in Montréal.
The ratification assembly held on April 8, 2024, unanimously voted in favour of the contract with 100% of support. The collective agreement was formally signed on April 16, 2024, and will come into effect on May 5, 2024. It will be effective for a seven-year period, coming to an end on May 3, 2031. This step marks a significant milestone for the workers of this grocery store, who obtained their union certification in 2022.
This new collective agreement includes highlights such as an increased Christmas premium, an increased premium for cashiers’ supervisors, and the creation of a premium for cake decorators and department supervisors. For the duration of the collective agreement, an average of 20% increase of wages is planned, reflecting thus the gains obtained by the collective bargaining.
“This victory underlines the UFCW’s engagement to advocate for the rights and interests of the food and commercial workers and shows the union solidarity’s value of accomplishing work conditions that are fair,” declared UFCW Local Union 500 President Antonio Filato.
More than 35,000 UFCW Local 500 members work at over 650 locations in Quebec. To find out more about the outstanding work of UFCW 500, visit the Local Union’s website.
