Healthcare workers at OATC London join the union – UFCW 175
London, Ont. – September 20, 2024 – Workers at the Ontario Addiction Treatment Centre (OATC) in London, Ontario, have voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining UFCW 175.
UFCW 175 already represents workers at many OATC units across Ontario: the workers at the London branch contacted the union after encouragement from UFCW members at other OATC units.
The newest members sought to join the union to address issues including job insecurity, mistreatment, scheduling issues, and favoritism by management.
Ontario Addiction Treatment Centres provide harm reduction and supportive strategies for individuals living with the devastating effects of drug addiction. Over 180 UFCW 175 members work at OATC, caring for patients in the midst of addiction recovery with compassion and understanding.
“These members have seen the difference that joining a Union can make and they decided they wanted better for themselves and their co-workers. We encourage all workers to speak up and make your voice heard by joining the Union,” said UFCW Local 175 President Kelly Tosato.
