New contract for members at Abattoir Saint-Germain – UFCW 1991-P

New contract for members at Abattoir Saint-Germain – UFCW 1991-P

Montreal – December 9, 2024 – UFCW 1991-P members at Abattoir Saint-Germain recently adopted their new collective agreement. Ratified at a meeting held on October 6, 2024, and officially signed on October 24, 2024, this agreement marks an important milestone for these workers, who have been unionized since February 2023.

This three-year collective agreement, which comes into effect on February 1, 2024, grants significant improvements to unionized workers' working conditions, while respecting existing gains. It will run until January 31, 2027, guaranteeing a structured framework for labor relations at this veal slaughterhouse in Saint-Germain-de-Grantham, Central Quebec.

Gains include wage increases totalling 10.5% over three years, while pay grade adjustments of up to 9.5% will apply to several job categories. In addition, these union members, who work as mechanics, electromechanics, mechanic's helpers, attendants and skinners, will also benefit from an improved UFCW Quebec dental plan, offering better long-term coverage.

The agreement also includes measures to control the use of external resources, thereby strengthening the role of members in day-to-day operations. Thanks to these provisions, union members can look forward to their professional future with confidence and stability, at the heart of an industry vital to veal processing in Quebec.

“Congratulations to the members of the negotiating committee for their exemplary dedication. Thanks to their hard work and unfailing commitment, the rights of union members at Abattoir St-Germain were vigorously defended and their working conditions improved. Together, we continue to pursue our mission of justice and job security, making our union proud,” says Janick Vallières, UFCW 1991-P President.
