Toronto – January 15, 2025 – UFCW Canada and Locals 175 and 1006A collaborated to support the Urban Alliance on Race Relations (UARR) Racial Justice Awards.
The UARR Racial Justice Awards honour anti-racism work within Health, Labour, Government, Education, Arts, Media, Environment and Justice, and honours changemakers who are committed to equity and social justice.
UFCW Canada and local unions have partnered with the Urban Alliance on Race Relations on previous initiatives, and, as such, were honoured to present awards of recognition to 2024 Racial Justice Award Recipients for their dedication and impact towards addressing racism in their communities at the annual awards event. The recipients received their awards at the annual awards event, held on December 7, 2024, in Toronto. The event included a keynote address by Amira Elghawaby, Canada’s Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, and all event proceeds from the event were dedicated to supporting the UARR’s Diversity Youth Fellowship program. This program enables racialized youth to acquire paid experience within municipal governments and at various policy-making spaces in arts, environment, and public policy organizations across Canada.
