New agreement for members at Metro Lac-Megantic – UFCW 500

Montreal (Quebec) – March 7, 2025 – UFCW Local 500 is proud to announce the signing of a new collective agreement for their union members working at Metro Lac-Megantic. The agreement, in effect until May 31, 2031, brings many improvements to the working conditions and the wages of the members.

The new collective agreement provides salary increases totalizing 17.5% for the highest rates throughout the duration of the agreement. Moreover, starting on June 1, 2025, the premium given to the workers that are temporarily replacing a manager will rise from $1 to a minimum of $1.50 per hour worked. A new mechanism is also put in place: when a worker is named in a position with specific responsibilities, a premium of $1 per hour will be added to their normal wage. Starting on June 7, 2027, the premium for members with manager’s tasks will rise from $0.75 to $1 per hour worked.

The new contract also includes adjustments to existing premiums. In addition to keeping the Christmas premium to 2%, an acknowledgement premium will be given to workers with a seniority of 10 years and more. Starting in May 2026, these members will receive an amount equivalent to 1% of their earnings during the reference year.

The vacation entitlement was also improved. After 12 years of service, the members will be entitled to four weeks of vacation at 9% and, after 16 years, to five weeks at 10%. The workers with 25 years of seniority will have the choice between five or six weeks at 12%.

“This agreement is the result of a rigorous work led by the negotiating committee to assure that working conditions and wages live up to members’ expectations. Thanks to this new agreement, we are consolidating gains for the members and making significant breakthroughs,” declares Antonio Filato, UFCW Local 500 President.
