Harper can't escape the Senate scandal

Ottawa – October 31, 2013 – No doubt Conservative Boss Harper is looking forward to flying off to Calgary and escaping the frying pan he finds himself in on Parliament Hill, as every day we increasingly find out more information about the PM and his involvement in the Duffy, Wallin, Brazeau Senate scandal.

The Conservative Party Convention in Calgary this weekend will allow Boss Harper to continue his attack on workers and their unions by promoting regressive anti-labour resolutions, but what happens at the convention will not distract Canadians from the scandals and deceit that continue to define Harper and his government.

Robocalls, Harper's former parliamentary secretary being charged under the Canada Elections Act for overspending, misleading the Canadian public on the costs of the F-35s, the multiple prorogations; all have created controversy, but the "Duffygate" scandal may sound the beginning of the end to the Harper government's reign of arrogance, steel-fisted control, deception, disrespect for democracy, and ultimately the mandate to govern.

Not only is this a government that has misled Canadians on the economic health of our country,  but as we learn more about how pervasive corruption is throughout the Prime Minister’s office, his cabinet and his government, Canadians are realizing that this is a government that is bankrupt — morally and ethically. Harper can say what he wants to his so-called core supporters at the Conservative Convention, but that won't be enough to cover up that the Harper regime is rotten to the core.
 
It is time for Stephen Harper to do the right thing by calling an election and letting Canadians decide who can best lead our country.
