UFCW Canada launches new webCampus platform and course

webCampus updateToronto – January 11, 2014 – UFCW Canada is excited to unveil a new platform and course for the ground-breaking online education program, webCampus, which offers free online courses to UFCW Canada members and their families.

The updated platform provides participants with easier access to webCampus activities, as well as several new interactive features. Participants can now watch tutorials and download PDFs on how to sign up for webCampus courses and how to navigate the upgraded platform. You can access the tutorials and PDF documents by clicking here.

As part of the platform overhaul, Canada's best union is also offering a new webCampus course entitled "Everyday Leadership." The course is available from January 6 – 31, 2014 (in English only) and seeks to answer the question, "What is leadership?" A description of the course can be found below.

NEW WEBCAMPUS COURSE FOR JANUARY 2014 – Everyday Leadership

January 6 – 31, 2014

What is Leadership? Seems like a simple question with an obvious answer, but that isn't necessarily the case. Leadership doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all definition, and there is no single characteristic of leadership. The fact is, there are just as many different leadership definitions as there are leaders.

Leadership is a process by which the leader influences others to perform and achieve. The leadership characteristics, beliefs, values, ethics, knowledge, and skills are all qualities that can be learned. This course provides the basis for understanding what leadership is and what leaders do to achieve success.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the basics of leadership and motivation;
  • Determine what is necessary to lead;
  • Become skilled at assessing leadership traits and qualities in yourself and others;
  • Learn how to develop leadership in yourself and others;

In addition to the Everyday Leadership course, the newly updated webCampus program is offering over 40 free online courses in Personal Computing, Labour Studies, Food and Retail, and Health and Safety for Winter 2014. UFCW Canada members and their families can register for these courses by clicking here.
