2013 UFCW Canada BDM Scholarship Winner: Abigaile Chua, Local 247
Richmond, BC – January 12, 2014 – Abigaile Chua is one of 18 UFCW Canada Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu (BDM) Scholarship winners for 2013. The Bachelor of Science student is the daughter of UFCW Canada Local 247 member Abel Chua who works at Grimm's Fine Foods (Abigaile's father is pictured next to her as she receives her scholarship cheque from UFCW Canada Local 247 staff representative Cathy Shannon).
"At first, I didn't find high school science all that interesting but that really changed. By the last year of high school my timetable was filled with science courses. Now I am pursuing a degree in biochemistry," says Sister Chua, who is enrolled full-time at Langara College. "I know that the pathway toward that goal is not going to be easy but I am very excited about the challenge. Receiving the scholarship allows me to focus that much more on my studies, so my family and I want to say thank you to UFCW Canada for caring about students and their dreams."
Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 BDM scholarships of $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post secondary study.
