Toronto – February 15, 2014 – UFCW Canada activists joined community members, Aboriginal leaders, and other allies yesterday in downtown Toronto to participate in the 9th Annual Strawberry Ceremony in Honour of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

Hundreds of ceremony participants assembled at the city’s Police Headquarters to stand in solidarity and to demand a national inquiry into the more than 582 Aboriginal women who are missing and murdered in Canada.

To date, ultra-conservative Stephen Harper has refused to call an inquiry into this crisis, stating his “skepticism” over the need for a public investigation.

In response, UFCW Canada is mobilizing Canadians through the Inquiry NOW! campaign where you and your friends can send a letter to Harper demanding immediate action.

The Toronto ceremony is one of many solidarity events that take place on February 14, starting with the first vigil over 20 years ago in Vancouver’s east side that was organized to demand action and to honour the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal women.
