Bedford, N.S. – February 27, 2014 – Ylber Gashi is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2013.

Originally from Prince Edward Island, Brother Gashi is currently enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Engineering Program at Dalhousie University in Halifax, where he is specializing in Civil Engineering. He is the son of Xhervrij Gashi, a proud UFCW Canada Local 864 member who works at Cavendish Farms in Summerside, P.E.I.

"This scholarship will be extremely helpful to me as I am studying in another province and living away from home is very expensive," says Ylber. "I also hope to pursue further education after my undergraduate and this scholarship makes my goals much more achievable," he adds.

Ylber was recently presented with the $1,000 union scholarship cheque by UFCW Canada Local 864 Union Representative Craig Walsh, who is pictured here with Brother Gashi. Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of eighteen union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education.
