My webCampus Experience: Sareena Prasad, UFCW 1518
New Westminster, B.C. – April 15, 2014 – UFCW Canada members across the country are raving about the union's groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, which offers free online courses to all UFCW Canada members, their families, and community partners.
webCampus participant and Local 1518 member Sareena Prasad recently completed the program's "Everyday Leadership" course, and had the following to say about her experience:
"webCampus is a great resource for learning new things in life, whether it's for personal growth, improving your career prospects, or simply gaining knowledge.
For me, I take courses to improve my knowledge so that my brain stays active.
The Everyday Leadership course was a great learning experience where we were given many chances to express ourselves.
The other thing that I liked about the course was that all participants were treated equally: the union recognizes that everyone has different learning abilities and no one was treated like they were "dumb." Everyone is born with different knowledge and skills and sometimes they just need to be helped in developing those skills.
I am very thankful that UFCW Canada's webCampus program offers such useful courses to members and their families, and I look forward to completing more courses in the future."
As part of her final assignment for the Everyday Leadership course, Sareena shared an inspiring story of her "best leadership experience," in which she helped her parents learn how to read and write in English after they were denied the opportunity to do so as children. "Seeing them learn something they've always wanted to know made me feel so happy, and a lot of my friends said this was the best thing I ever did for my parents," Sister Prasad says.
