Winnipeg – February 24, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 832 members working in Safeway grocery stores across Manitoba met this past Sunday to hear an update regarding their Local Union's negotiations for a new collective agreement.
Toronto – February 24, 2014 – UFCW Canada is conducting a nation-wide online survey on the impact of domestic violence on members and workplaces to better understand how domestic violence affects members at work. This survey is being conducted in parallel to an identical survey by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) in partnership with Western University’s Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children (CREVAWC).
Toronto – February 23, 2014 – UFCW Canada’s groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, is launching two new courses for the month of March. The free online courses – one in English and another in French – are being offered from March 3rd to 28th and are available to all UFCW Canada members and their families, as well as our community partners. Mont-Joli, Que. – February 22, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 509 is pleased to announce that the agreement in principle reached between the Local Union's bargaining committee and the Metro Plus in Mont-Joli, Quebec has been approved by an overwhelming majority of workers.
Mexico City, Mexico – February 21, 2014 – The NAFTA Summit held in Toluca, Mexico on February 19 should have marked the beginning of a new dialogue between Mexico and Canada: a dialogue that fosters unconditional respect for the labour rights of all migrant workers.
Narewa, Fiji – February 20, 2014 – UFCW Canada and labour activists around the world are celebrating a hard-won victory for global labour rights after a successful online solidarity campaign – led by the International Union of Food workers (IUF) – forced the government of Fiji to drop all police charges laid against leaders of Fiji’s National Union of Hospitality Catering and Tourism Industries as a result of a strike action earlier this year.
Montreal – February 20, 2014 – Following a series of ratification meetings, 88% of the 900 members of UFCW Canada Local 500 have voted in favour of a new collective agreement. With this seven-year agreement, retroactive to August 2013, labour contracts are renewed for employees at seven Loblaw food stores – Ahuntsic, Cavendish, Pierrefonds, Jean-Talon, Kirkland (Provigo Le Marché), Saint-Laurent and LaSalle.
