Ontario’s budget cuts come on the backs of working people and the poor

The deep cuts delivered in the Ontario Budget on March 28 will provide very few benefits for citizens and will needlessly worsen income inequality in the province. “By threatening government workers with legislated wage freezes, enacting deep cuts to valuable public services, and maintaining a corporate tax rate of 11.5 percent, Premier Dalton McGuinty and Finance Minister Dwight Duncan are clearly demonstrating that they do not understand the needs of ordinary Ontarians," says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley.

Thomas Mulcair wins NDP Leadership, thanks UFCW Canada for “constant, steady and wise” support

UFCW Canada activists were a force at the historic NDP Leadership Convention, which proudly elected Thomas Mulcair as the new Leader of Canada’s Official Opposition. Soon after becoming the new Leader of Canada’s most progressive political party, Mulcair thanked UFCW Canada for its outstanding support and for being a leading voice for workers and their families.

B.C. Supreme Court asked to muzzle BC Labour Board regarding Mexico blacklisting evidence

VANCOUVER- March 26, 2012 - The Supreme Court of British Columbia begins deliberations on Wednesday whether to prevent the B.C. Labour Relations Board (LRB) from ruling that Mexico prevented union supporters from returning to Canada under the federal government's Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP).

Zellers workers gain the attention of thousands in national campaign that Asks Target for Fairness

A national campaign led by Zellers workers is drawing the attention of daily commuters, visitors, local business owners and passers-by in a number of cities across Canada. The campaign led by Zellers workers began rolling out billboards and bus-stop ads earlier this month in over a dozen metropolitan areas, including Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke and Halifax.

Karate class commemorates International Women's Day

At the UFCW Canada Local 500 training centre in Montreal, International Women’s Day was commemorated by a punchy evening organized by the Quebec National Council that included an introduction to karate to help Sisters avoid becoming victims of assault.
