Sisters convene at UFCW Saskatchewan Women’s Conference

Saskatoon – July 23, 2013 – UFCW Canada women activists from across Saskatchewan gathered recently in Saskatoon for the annual UFCW Saskatchewan Women’s Conference as UFCW Canada sisters from the province convened to celebrate labour rights, and to strategize in pushing against the ultra-Conservative attack on working families, and the impact of that attack on Saskatchewan workplaces, employees and their communities.

Toronto – July 22, 2013 – UFCW Canada is giving migrant workers and their families hope for a better future through the 2013 Migrant Workers Scholarship program, which offers twenty $500 union scholarships to the family members of migrant workers.

UFCW 401 and NDP engage community in Alberta

Calgary – July 22, 2013 – Between the flooding that impacted much of Southern Alberta and the undeterred celebration of Calgary’s “Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth,” the past few weeks have been nothing if not eventful for Albertans and the province’s largest private-sector local union, UFCW Canada Local 401. Whether in clean-up or celebrating, Local 401 activists have been especially present throughout the province, working closely with community allies, including the NDP.

Retail organizing breakthrough: Sirens employees join the union

Brampton, Ont. – July 19, 2013 – A group of retail employees at the Sirens clothing store in Brampton, Ontario made history this week by becoming the first group of Sirens employees in Canada to join the union by voting “Yes!” to UFCW Canada Local 175.

Workers' rights champion Paul Cavalluzzo appointed to Order of Canada

Toronto – July 17, 2013 – Labour and legal activist Paul Cavalluzzo has been appointed to the Order of Canada. The appointment, awarded by the Governor General of Canada, is in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
