By the Numbers: Aboriginal Peoples of Canada

Toronto – June 26, 2013 – The Aboriginal peoples of Canada, as defined by the Constitution Act, 1982, comprise the Indian, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada. The Aboriginal population increased by 232,385 people, or 20.1% between 2006 and 2011, compared with 5.2% for the non-Aboriginal population.  In 2011, the average age of First Nations people was younger than the non-Aboriginal population in every province and territory.

BDM Scholarships for Fall 2013

Toronto – June 24, 2013 – Skyrocketing student tuition fees have led students taking on record levels of student debt far higher than what previous generations were expected to assume. Ontario is just one example, where undergraduate tuition in Ontario is more than eight times higher than what average tuition fees were in 1980.

S.A.M.E. activists bring migrant awareness to thousands of students

Toronto – June 21, 2013 - In many regards the 2012-2013 school year was an historic milestone for S.A.M.E. (Students Against Migrant Exploitation). Among the many accomplishments for the organization, now in its fourth year, was the total number of students that were engaged through presentations and online campaigns: more than 7,500 students altogether!

Toronto – June 20, 2013 – The United Nations (UN) World Refugee Day is observed every year on June 20th, to honour the strength, courage and determination of millions of women, children and men who are forced to flee their homes under the threat of war, conflict, violence or persecution. This year’s focus is on the impact of war on families and the theme is “1 family torn apart by war is too many”.
