Toronto – April 4, 2013 - Two weeks and twenty stops later, a cross-Ontario tour by Students Against Migrant Exploitation (S.A.M.E.) engaged thousands of participants and visitors, and has built the way for new S.A.M.E. chapters across Ontario. Cambridge, Ont. – April 2, 2013 – Long-time UFCW Canada activist and friend Connie Maile passed away peacefully on March 28 in the company of loved ones at the Grand River Hospital in Cambridge, Ontario.
Montreal – April 2, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 500 is leading a tour throughout Quebec to engage union members, grocery store workers and community members about the critical importance of supporting local businesses that respect labour rights and build good jobs in the retail food sector.
Edmonton – March 31, 2013 – Registration for the 2013 CALM Conference is now open. This year’s CALM conference will be held in Edmonton, Alberta from May 23 to May 25, when participants will have the opportunity to focus on the best ways to communicate the importance of fairness, good jobs, and the sustainability of communities.
Winnipeg – March 29, 2013 – National President Wayne Hanley and UFCW Canada Local 832 leaders including President Jeff Traeger recently got a sneak peek of the yet-to-be opened Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Toronto – March 28, 2013 – UFCW Canada activists and officers joined more than 180 delegates and participants in a strategic forum this week about building a broad-based national coalition based on the values that are shared by the majority of Canadians as well as the labour movement – such as fairness, equal opportunity, and a safe and healthy place to work and live.
