Saskatchewan locals warn of looming assault on labour

UFCW Canada Locals 1400 and 248P are denouncing the Saskatchewan Party government's effort to fast track consultations with the public and interested stakeholders on sweeping changes to 15 pieces of labour legislation. Even though the overhaul would affect every worker in the province, Premier Brad Wall and Labour Relations Minister Don Morgan are only providing citizens and organizations with 90 days to submit their ideas for change on everything from collective bargaining for healthcare to workplace safety to the minimum wage.

Statement from National President Wayne Hanley on International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Each year May 17 is observed as the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia. 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the Fondation Émergence's campaign to establish a special day that recognizes homosexuality and celebrates the valuable contributions of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, and queer (LGBTQ) community in our society.

Remco workers and UFCW Canada call on H&M to respect its Code of Conduct

UFCW Canada has applied to represent 60 workers at a Remco warehouse that exclusively supplies to H&M retail stores.

Workers at the Brampton, Ontario facility have organized to join the union due to concerns regarding wages, a lack of recognition for seniority, unpaid overtime, and a refusal by the company to designate temporary workers as full-time.

Duck farm newest Quebec agriculture unit

Workers at a specialized poultry operation near Marieville, Québec have become the newest UFCW Canada Local 501 agriculture bargaining unit. The new members work at a duck farm operated by  La Ferme Palmex  — a Québec company that specializes in the breeding, production and processing of ducks for the domestic and international gourmet food market.

UFCW Canada Local 1000A is proud to announce the launch of its first-ever PRIDE advisory group. The first meeting was held in mid-April at the Local 1000A office in Woodbridge, Ontario and brought together members and activists of all ages and cultures.
