Toronto – January 4, 2020 – UFCW Canada, together with the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA), has renewed a benefit plan that provides no-cost, accidental death and dismemberment insurance for migrant workers who are members of the AWA.
Leamington, Ont. – October 10, 2019 – Migrant farm workers from across the Windsor-Essex area recently joined UFCW Canada and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) for an end-of-summer barbeque and a workshop on health and safety held at the AWA Workers Support Centre in Leamington, Ontario.
Abbotsford, B.C. – September 23, 2019 – Dozens of migrant farm workers from across the Abbotsford area recently joined UFCW Canada and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) for a series of workshops on health and safety and knowing your rights at work.
St. Catharines, Ont. – September 10, 2019 – UFCW Canada has helped a migrant worker from Mexico obtain one of the first open work permits in Ontario after the worker in question experienced abuse from her employer while working at a farm in the Niagara Falls area.
St. Catharines, Ont. – August 21, 2019 – UFCW Canada is calling for additional protections for migrant agrifood workers following a fire at Pioneer Flower Farms in St. Catharines, Ontario that has destroyed employees’ housing accommodations and resulted in further precarity for one of Canada’s most vulnerable worker populations.
Toronto – July 24, 2019 – In the wake of the federal government’s introduction of open work permits for migrant workers experiencing abuse, UFCW Canada has released a new submission calling on the government to pursue additional reforms that could help strengthen migrant workers’ rights and provide options for permanent residency.
