UFCW Canada advocates for greater protections for migrant workers in Windsor-Essex County
Windsor, Ont. – July 21, 2020 – UFCW Canada recently presented to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit to advocate for better health and safety protections for migrant workers labouring in the Windsor, Ontario area as it grapples with multiple COVID-19 outbreaks at local farming operations.


Toronto – June 24, 2020 – As COVID-19 outbreaks continue to impact farming operations across the country, UFCW Canada has secured dozens of open work permits for migrant workers hoping to escape abusive employers and dangerous work environments.
Toronto – April 6, 2020 – UFCW Canada, the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA), and our community allies have achieved pay protection and Employment Insurance (EI) eligibility for migrant and temporary foreign workers who are laid off, have become ill, or have to quarantine due to COVID-19.
Toronto – January 4, 2020 – UFCW Canada, together with the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA), has renewed a benefit plan that provides no-cost, accidental death and dismemberment insurance for migrant workers who are members of the AWA.
Leamington, Ont. – October 10, 2019 – Migrant farm workers from across the Windsor-Essex area recently joined UFCW Canada and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) for an end-of-summer barbeque and a workshop on health and safety held at the AWA Workers Support Centre in Leamington, Ontario.
