Toronto – October 24, 2014 – UFCW Canada expresses shock and dismay with Quebec’s Liberal government for ramming through legislation that has the potential to strip many agriculture workers of their basic human rights.
Ottawa – September 17, 2014 – More than 100 migrant agriculture workers will now receive the EI Parental Benefits they were wrongfully denied by an Employment Insurance tribunal, in the wake of a successful legal battle supported by UFCW Canada, the Agriculture Workers Alliance, and argued by Niagara North Community Legal Assistance and the Income Security Advocacy Centre (ISAC).
Toronto – September 16, 2014 – Jorge Cortazar Lopez is 33-years-old and has been coming to Canada from his native Mexico for the past two years under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program.
Quebec City – September 15, 2014 – UFCW Canada presented a hard-hitting brief to the Quebec National Assembly regarding the provincial Liberal government's Bill 8 and its attack on the labour rights of seasonal agriculture workers in Quebec to unionize and bargain collectively.
Toronto – September 12, 2014 – The latest recipients of the UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarships have been announced. The recipients are a diverse group of young people from the Global South, ranging in age from 4 to 24 — attending school in Philippines, Guatemala, Jamaica, Kenya, and Mexico.
