Local 1993 “Summer Splash” kicks off Caribana Season for UFCW Canada activists and families

Over 200 UFCW Canada activists, families and community partners gathered in Toronto on July 21 to fundraise for sickle cell research and bring in the annual Caribana season with an energetic night of music, dancing, door prizes and delicious West Indian food.

Local 1400 race wins again for leukemia research

Leukemia research was the winner, as dozens of participants and onlookers enjoyed the speed and sunshine at the Second Annual Mini-Indy go-cart races held recently in Regina. The fundraising event drew go-cart enthusiasts from across the region for a fun-filled competition in the parking lot next to the UFCW Canada Local 1400 regional office in Regina.

UFCW wins interim victory in Pennsylvania liquor privatization battle

Judgement without jail time for Christmas Eve tragedy falls short for Ontario workers

Toronto, ON - A monetary fine against a Toronto construction company found negligent in the 2009 death of four workers, with no jail time for the company's owner, "sends a message that for a few thousand dollars you can toss safety and the lives of workers aside", says Wayne Hanley, the National President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Canada (UFCW Canada).

Canadians not fooled by Target takeover approval

On June 6, the Harper government stuck its head in the corporate sandbox when it issued its approval for Target, an American multinational, to wipe out the jobs and security of more than 12,000 Canadian workers — the men and women who currently work at Zellers, whose rights in the eyes of the government are disposable.

Fairness for Zellers Workers petition filed with Quebec National Assembly

Québec City, QC – June 14, 2012 - A province-wide petition has been filed in the Quebec National Assembly, calling on the provincial Minister of Labour to require Target to comply with the Quebec Labour Act, and guarantee that workers at 35 Zellers stores in Quebec have the right to continue their employment — with their current seniority, salary and benefits — when Target takes over their store.
