Refugee Rights Day – April 4, 2012

Refugee Rights Day is commemorated each April 4th to reflect on the impact of the Singh decision regarding the protection of refugee rights in Canada.  On April 4th, 1985, the Supreme Court of Canada rendered the historic Singh Decision in recognition of refugee claimants Harnhajan Singh, Sadhu Singh Thandi, Paramjit Singh Mann, Kewal Singh, Charanjit Singh Gill, Indrani and Satnam Singh.

B.C. Supreme Court asked to muzzle BC Labour Board regarding Mexico blacklisting evidence

VANCOUVER- March 26, 2012 - The Supreme Court of British Columbia begins deliberations on Wednesday whether to prevent the B.C. Labour Relations Board (LRB) from ruling that Mexico prevented union supporters from returning to Canada under the federal government's Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP).

Reinforcing advocacy for newcomers at the 14th Metropolis Conference 2012

A broad and dynamic UFCW Canada delegation from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec recently joined more than 1,000 delegates from around the globe at the recently concluded Metropolis Conference 2012 in Toronto, Ontario. Among this year’s delegates were activists from UFCW Canada Locals 247, 401, 500, 501, 832, 1400 and the National Office.
