As part of UFCW Canada’s national initiatives with immigrant and migrant worker communities, about 25 UFCW Canada delegates and allies from across the country actively participated in the 13th National Metropolis Conference — Immigration: Bringing the World to Canada, held in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Wayne Hanley, the national president of UFCW Canada has called for the resignation of Jason Kenney, the Minister of Immigration and Citizenship for allowing his parliamentary office to be used in a partisan attempt to fundraise for a pre-election advertising campaign.
In Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, UFCW Canada and AWA activists joined other labour allies to protest the Mexican federal government’s attack against the union movement and workers’ rights in that country. The Canadian protests were part of a worldwide series of protests held in 30 countries in February.
TORONTO - Thanks to the efforts of the Agriculture Workers Alliance/UFCW Canada, the door has been opened for about 130 migrant and domestic farm workers to get the back pay they were owed when the Ontario farm they worked at declared bankruptcy last fall.
