UFCW action against Unfair Elections Act gains momentum with open letter
Toronto – April 16, 2014 – Opposition to the Harper government’s Bill C-23, (the deceitfully named "Fair Elections Act") is growing across Canada – thanks in part to the ongoing efforts of UFCW Canada activism, lobbying, and social media campaigns.




Guatemala City, Guatemala – April 4, 2014 – UFCW Canada and allies recently met with Guatemalan authorities to discuss the shortfalls of temporary foreign worker programs, and the impact of the programs on the human and labour rights of Guatemalan migrant workers.
Toronto – April 3, 2014 – When the Supreme Court of Canada handed down its landmark 1985 decision in the case Singh v. Minister of Employment and Immigration, Canada took a momentous leap forward in the developing legal areas of Constitutional law and refugee rights. In the Singh case, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that guarantees within the Charter of Rights and Freedoms to the fundamental rights of life, liberty, and security applied to everyone in Canada – including refugees.
Victoria, B.C. – March 31, 2014 – The verdict by the B.C. Labour Relations Board (BCLRB) that Mexico had blacklisted Mexican migrant workers in British Columbia suspected of being union supporters rocked the B.C. legislature last week, as the opposition demanded action from Premier Christy Clarke to tell Mexico to stop the blacklisting.
