The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating the workplace death of a Mexican migrant agriculture worker who was fatally injured on September 10, at an orchard operation near Belleville. Fausto Martinez-Izazaga, 38, died when an industrial water tank at the agriculture complex fell and crushed him.
Under clear blue skies, thousands of participants, including Local 1000A staff, members and activists, took to the streets of downtown Ottawa on August 26, 2012 to celebrate the Capital Pride Parade. Decked out in UFCW gold T-shirts, they danced and waved flags as they made their way through the downtown core.
LAZARO CARDENAS, MICHOACAN, MEXICO — UFCW Canada recently strengthened its presence in Michoacán, Mexico through its participation at a conference for municipal functionaries in charge of servicing migrant workers from that state.
Recently, UFCW Canada Local 501 in collaboration with the AWA support centres in Saint-Rémi and Saint-Eustache organized a cultural and sports event outing for migrant agriculture workers in the Montreal area.
Under a Joint Diversity Initiative, UFCW Canada Local 1518 and Overwaitea recently participated in Vancouver’s Pinoy Fiesta, which invites everyone to spend the day celebrating the vibrant Filipino culture. Thousands of families attended the colourful event in the city’s Memorial South Park.
Again this year, tens of thousands of participants marched proudly together along René-Lévesque Boulevard at the Montreal Pride parade to celebrate diversity and the LGBT community.
