UFCW Canada’s Youth Internship Program (YIP) recently launched a “Farm Workers Feed Communities” summer course in Leamington, Ontario. The program was met with great success as the youth organized and led a series of outreach initiatives including a community barbeque that celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) support centre in Leamington. It was the students’ enthusiasm and hard work that attracted over 1000 local agriculture workers and community members to the event.

On June 11, members of the UFCW Canada National Office joined thousands of community members at dozens of locations across the country to send a message by letter, and by walking, in support of an equal future for First Nations children in Canada.
UFCW is claiming victory in its effort to prevent multinational grocery conglomerate Royal Ahold from enforcing a policy that aimed to restrict its employees' use of social media outside of the workplace.
Recently, the Students Against Migrant Exploitation (SAME) chapter at Brock University held one of their most successful events so far. The event, entitled "Game for SAME," was a video game tournament that sought to raise awareness of the plight of Migrant Workers among the St. Catharines community, as well as fundraise for the families who were affected by the tragic February 2012 accident that claimed the lives of ten migrant workers in Homestead, Ontario.
From across Saskatchewan, 30 youth members of UFCW Canada Local 1400 recently convened for the first-ever UFCW Canada Local 1400 Youth Conference, June 13-14 at Local 1400's new Regina office.
